WTS dedicates the 2021 Performance Competition to the memory of Daniel J Patrylak (1932-2021)
This competition is sponsored by Conn-Selmer and OAcademy.
Welcome to our competition section. The 2021 WTS Performance Competition will be held in the categories Solo (Etude), Orchestral, and Jazz. Please note each competition has three divisions: High School (colegio/ preparatoria), Undergraduate (Bachiller/ Licenciatura) and Graduate/Open (Master's or Postdegree, maestría o posgrados). Undergraduate participants need to be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program.
Age limit:
Up to age 35 as of June 24th, 2021
Registration Fee: $25.00 USD
Submission Deadlines:
Submission Deadline for the preliminary round: EXTENDED to May 31st, 11:59 pm (EST)
Finalists for all competitions will be notified by June 2nd.
Submission Deadline for the finals: June 20th, 11:59 pm (EST)
The winners for all competitions will be announced during the WTS Seminar.

All submissions should be high quality video and will be uploaded onto a private WTS YouTube Channel that only judges will have access to. Please see specific rules for each competition.
Prizes:
$10,000 scholarship and admission to the OAcademy
- This unique prizes will be the admission of one winner to the OAcademy 2022, a 6 month intensive program with weekly individual lesson and masterclasses, orchestra and business training, curated by top institutions from the The Royal Concertgebouw to Curtis Institute of Music.
"OAcademy is an innovative orchestral training platform that combines professional caliber artistic instruction with cultural exchange & leadership development."
The Value of this prize includes a $10,000 full tuition scholarship subsidy to participate during the 2022 OAcademy. (prize and participation subject to terms and conditions)
2. SPEZIAL PRIZES:
- Top of the line - instruments by the Conn-Selmer Company (Vincent Bach).

- More than $ 3000 in Cash Prizes.
4. Music Entrepreneurship Panel:
- The winners are offered to participate in a special Music Entrepreneurship Panel, lead by speakers of the "Global Leaders Program" (by the Orchestra of the Americas Group), with entrepreneurs Nathan Shabot, Deborah Wanderley, and Erin Bush.
5. WTS Recording Prize:
- The judges will select a WTS Recording Prize Winner from all categories. The Recording Prize Winner will perform the world premier recording of one of two original compositions of his choice, “ Bobby Mc Bb “ or “Lines of Bobby - composed for WTS by Denys Bouliane (Canada).
6. Composer Talk
- A conversation with the composers and judges of the WTS competition etudes;

7. Active Materclass Participation during WTS Seminar
- The finalists will automatically perform for those of WTS guest artists, who decide to listen to live players during their masterclass.
Etude Competition: Each etude should be recorded without edits from beginning to end. In each round each individual etude is to be recorded as a separate track. Charlier, Arban, Böhme and Wurm Etudes should be played on Bb Trumpet and all etudes are in the key of Bb. Other etudes maybe be performed in Bb or C trumpet if the player wishes.
All Repertoire for final round will be announced on May 12th.
Orchestra Competition: Each Round is to be played in one sitting. The choice of instruments is left up to the discretion of the player. All excerpts are found in Michael Sachs’s The Orchestral Trumpet available at Hickey’s Music, Groth Music, or on Michael Sachs' website.
Jazz Competition: Participants will record with a backing track such as iReal Pro, Jamey Aebersold Play-along recordings etc. Forms for all tunes except ballads should be head, 2 solo choruses. Play head out for a total of 4 total times through the tune. For ballads, first time play the head, solo over sections A, A, B and play the head out on the last A section for a total of 2 times through the tune.

Etude Competition Outline
Preliminaries: The participants should pick two of the three etudes from their category.
Finals: The repertoire for the etude competition finals will be announced on May 12th and will include new compositions written specifically for the World Trumpet Society 2021 Etude Competition.
These works will be premiered by the winners.
