Erden Bilgen started his music education with his father Selim Bilgen and Cemal Cimcoz. He studied trumpet in Izmir State Conservatory with Hermann Neuling and Hans Nickolai, music theory with Andre Sommer. He continued his trumpet lessons in Ankara Conservatory with Jean Claude Bayeaux and harmony & composition with Ercivan Saydam.
Between 1971-78, he played in the Presidential Symphony Orchestra. Recorded on TV and radio shows Turkish folk, classical, modern music as well as jazz with Erol Pekcan, pop with Istanbul Gelisim and folk music with Cinuçen Tanrıkorur and Erol Sayan.
Erden Bilgen completed his master education in 1978 at Rheinische Musikhochschule Düsseldorf with Prof. R. Lodenkemper on trumpet and took conducting lessons with Prof. Trommer.
Since 1978 he has given concerts with Essen & Duisburg Philarmony, Freiburg Symphony; Baden Baden, Frankfurt, Cologne and Freiburg Baroque Orchestras; Berlin Chamber Orchestra and Berlin Radio Symphony and Monaco Philarmony. Mr. Bilgen gave lessons at different music schools in Germany as well. He premiered new compositions with the modern music group “Avance”. He presented workshops about “blowing technic” and “interpretation”. He was one of the founders of “Freiburger Jazz Schule” in Germany and he gave trumpet lessons there.
In 1991, he was honored with the “State Soloist” title by the Ministry of Culture Ankara. The mentioned title was only given to Erden Bilgen in the category of brass instruments in Turkey.
Mr. Bilgen teaches trumpet and chamber music in Music and Performing Arts Department at Bilkent University; State Conservatories at Hacettepe University; Istanbul University; Istanbul Technical University (MIAM); İstanbul Mimar Sinan University; İzmir Dokuz Eylul University, Baskent, Mersin, Cukurova and Uludag University Conservatories. His students are having the first, second and third awards from the competitions in Europe, the USA and are currently working as musicians on state symphony orchestras in Turkey as well as abroad. He tooks part as soloist, composer & conductor in Germany, Austria, Spain, Monaco, England, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, France, Sweden, Denmark, Lichtenstein, Oman, Egypt, Greece, Czech Republic, Romania, Lithuania, Hungary, Morocco, Qatar, Tunisia, Thailand, Mexico, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. He played as soloist of his own composition “Dialog” in Germany. The recording of this live playing is in the CDs, “Erden Bilgen Plays Music for Trumpet”. He played in the premier for N. Basegmezler’s “Sinfonietta” for trumpet with the Presidential Orchestra in Ankara. He also played as the soloist for the “Gallipoli Rhapsody”, composed by Gary Daverna, dedicated to Erden Bilgen and Canakkale martyrs.
Mr. Bilgen’s composition “Traditional Suite '' performed with the U.C. Erkin’s Kocekce as the “first Turkish composer in Vienna '', by the Vienna Ton Künstler Orchestra in the historical '' Musikverein Großer Saal “. He played his composition “Huzur”, in Sydney, Australia, Closing Fanfare in the USA, A Musical Journey From Anatolia to the Balkans with Daniel Schnyder (soprano sax) in Antalya. He conducted his own composition “Mehteran Fanfare” with the Brass Philharmonic for the world premiere at the Presidential Symphony Orchestra’s Concert Hall in Ankara.
